Peel ripe bananas and slice them into a few pieces. Freeze them in a bag or container. This can be done months in advance so there's no need to wait when you're ready to make the ice cream.
Toss about three bananas' worth of frozen pieces into a food processor or blender. If not using a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix, or if the bananas are frozen rock solid, add a few tablespoons of milk and the optional pinch of salt.
Blend until the mixture resembles a thick and smooth soft serve texture, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed.
Either eat it right away as soft serve, or spread it into a container and freeze for about thirty minutes for a firmer texture, then scoop out with an ice cream scoop for authentic presentation.

2 tbsp milk of choice → 2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk (or water)
If your milk of choice is dairy or oat, swapping to unsweetened almond milk or plain water cuts a few calories and helps blending. Flavour is essentially unchanged since it's a tiny amount.
